You celebrate women through your collections. Sublimating a woman’s body isn’it the most difficult exercise in fashion ?
Sophie Deloudi. The female body is the fundamental base for anything you do in fashion. It is a prerequisite to respect and follow the body’s rules. However, it is of pivotal importance to display the body in a flattering and unique way while also, making the woman feel beautiful. Swimwear is the most challenging creation as many women do not feel comfortable while wearing them.
There are as many different bodies as there are different characters. Your creations can seduce each of us. What inspires you ?
The ultimate task is to highlight the female body. You must keep in mind each woman’s uniqueness. However, the extend of which that can grow depends on the extend a collection can grow. When you are not a huge brand, it is hard to address all women. You navigate closer to your identity and towards what suits you best, always hoping that it can adjust to other women’s needs as well. Inspiration strikes from various sources. One can be inspired by art, an era and its trends (potentially the one he lives in), movies but also from the materials and the fabrics you choose to use each year.
As we wrote, in the article about your 2023 Mastermind collection, some models remind of the subtle coloring of the surreal velvety gradient of butterfly wings, some others show the different glaring shades of a sunset on a summer evening in Greece. I imagine that the light, the views of the country are an inexhaustible source of inspiration for creation.
Growing up in Greece, inevitably, the light will always be within you. The sea is part of your DNA. I spent all my childhood summers close to the sea, wearing my swimwear like a second skin. The sun, the colors the aroma along with the greek lighting are part of my DNA. There is no need for me to create them. They are everywhere and I could never imagine the power of the sea and the sun anywhere else in this planet than Greece, my country !
Tell us more about you, about your own world.
I studied fashion design in Milan. With the only exception of the years of my studies the rest of my life I have been a devotee to the Greek lands and more especially Athens. I live in the northern suburbs of Athens. However, my desire is to be able to move in the south at some point to be as close to the sea as possible. My work is divided between my study, which is in the center of Athens, and my house. Of course, I go to the movies, I love theatre and concerts. We often visit galleries of modern art with my friends and contemporary exhibitions in the museums of Athens which have really grown and are so attractive! I love to travel, and I strive to do it as often as possible. I aspire each year to meet a new place.
What is your favorite Greek city and island ?
My favorite place is the Kaiafa lake, at Peloponnesus. I visit the lake quite often. It is a destination where I can exercise my favorite sport, water skiing, while also, enjoy the beautiful beach and feel the tranquility of nature. I used to love Mykonos – yet, these days, I prefer less touristic islands. Patmos, Kimolos and Amorgos are the ones of my choice.
Where are you going this summer for holidays ?
I haven’t planned anything yet. I will definitely spend some days at Kaiafa Lake and afterwards maybe at an island…
