A traditional Greek café, a small tavern, a refined restaurant... Cherchez la Femme is all of these at the same time. A place to know absolutely.

First of all : why “Cherchez la Femme” ?! It’s so french ! So sexy ! So modern !

First of all, why not ? It is always about a woman ! The actual saying is featured in an old and very popular song by a famous Greek composer-song writer called Vassilis Tsitsanis. This is a little tribute to the man and his legacy.

When did you open ?

Cherchez la Femme opened in 2017. In the downtown area of Athens, squarely in the middle of all the buzz and life of the capital city. It is one of several establishments that Terrablue, the mother company, is operating in Athens under the ownership and management of Mr. Sotiris Chronis, a serial entrepreneur in the field of hospitality and F&B.

Can you describe your place : the spirit, the food, the mood, the clients ?

Cherchez la Femme is best described as an all-day traditional Greek “kafeneio”, which is café in Greek ! As such it spans the full spectrum of tastes and offerings from your morning coffee to your night cap cocktail and everything in between ! At Cherchez la Femme, we strive to adhere to tradition in everything we do. Coffee, for example is a ritual with us as is the traditional “meze”, small dishes to be shared, that accompanies ouzo or tsipouro. We take great pride in sourcing the best ingredients from everywhere in Greece. This is the defining characteristic of our food along with the fact that our menu is a sampling of Greek cuisine and its delicacies, catering to all tastes ! The mood is casual and relaxed since Cherchez is after all a “kafeneio” ! It attracts all ages and groups ranging from couples looking for a centrally located place to have dinner to larger groups gathering for drinks and a taste of Greek dishes.

Tell us about Athens, the way of life there and your area ?

Athens, the capital city of Greece, is a large metropolis of close to 5 million people. Layer upon layer of history is clearly visible anywhere and everywhere in the city, with the Acropolis and the Parthenon obviously dominating the cityscape. The downtown area, the historic center as it is called, is right under the Acropolis and it is one of the main attractions of the city. The city’s busiest commercial street is right behind Cherchez and its Cathedral is right in front of it. Athens is not your average European capital, not with its Riviera where locals and tourists can actually swim ! Like all of Greece it is a unique blend of cultures and civilizations, where East meets West!

Which dishes do you advise foreign people when they come to your place ?

While it is really difficult to pick favorites, we believe that there are a few dishes that never leave our menu and are definitely worth mentioning and trying : Slow cooked beef red wine casserole with aubergine puree, Fava Split from Feneos with Smoked Eel, Stuffed Vine Leaves with Rice and Pine Nuts seeds and of course Grilled Soutzoukakia made of minced sheep and beef, Greek yogurt, tomato paste sauce flavored with dried purple basil, red onion and fresh herbs.
