Behind the doors of the Cabinet of Curiosities of Lito, located at Irodotou street 25, in Kolonaki, hides the magical world of the designer Lito. The “Tu Es Partout” collection has seduced us for several years now, thanks to Paris/Athens Magazine, we finally had the chance to interview the creator.
In Mediterranean culture, eye charm has been used for centuries. Lito chose to revisit it in her own way. Each piece is individually hand painted, in a variety of colors, by a Russian iconographer, enamelled, covered in gold and then adorned with precious stones. The fine details give the amulet a hyper-realistic quality, the eye seems to be constantly following you. Fascinating, hypnotizing, we literally fell under its spell.
P/A. All your creations are sublime, precious, elegant. We have fallen in love with your “Tu Es Partout” collection, created few years ago. This eye is really special and unique. How did you come to this idea ?
Lito. I came across this hand painted eye by a Russian iconographer and it just spoke to my soul. It felt real to me, a real talisman, so I decided to use it and create some talismans. I had no idea that “Tu Es Partout” would become such a success !
Can you tell us more about the symbol of the eye, the story it tells?
It’s about having an eye close to you, always “keeping an eye on you”, protecting you, being a shield of negative energies and envy while being a traditional reference in Mediterranean culture.
Your collection is called “Tu Es Partout”, your workshop in Athens “Cabinet de curiosités”, are you attached to the french sound, the french melody ?
I am, actually, after living in Paris for 2 years, studying and working there, seeing Paris as a cabinet de Curiosites, I wanted to bring some of that feeling and mystery to Athens, and interpret it in my own way, creating my own cabinet de Curiosites, bringing jewels, minerals and interesting objects, sourced while on my travels around the world and using them to create one of a kind jewelry for my clients.

Tell us more about yourself.
I have been designing jewelry for the last 25 years, being self-taught has been a blessing, allowing me to express myself freely, not only creatively but also in the way that I run my business, staying close to my initial vision which is to design jewelry for women that empowers and is empowered by them, their sensuality, their beauty and their weakness and embracing all of them with love for themselves.
You live in Athens, tell us about the city. How do you feel about Athens ?
I feel Athens is one of the best cities to live in, especially at the moment. The quality of life here is incredible as well as the weather, the landscape, even the chaos gives you a sense of freedom that is unmatched. I’m proud of my heritage but I’m mostly proud of my enigmatic, chaotic, anarchic ancient city.
What are your favorite neighborhoods ?
I love the area around the Acropolis museum, I always feel like a tourist in my own city when I walk around those streets. Vouliagmeni, as it’s only a 40 minutes drive from the center and you are by the beach for a swim or dinner.
Which restaurants, which cafes to know imperatively ?
Linou Soubasis, very close to my studio in downtown Athens , is a favourite for lunch or dinner, love their salads and fish dishes, everything is so clean, lean, and fresh. I also love Diporto a very old authentic tavern where you eat few specific dishes (the same for the past 25 years) that’s how long I have been going there with my dad. Me Kolonaki restaurant, very close to my store and my flat, best place for breakfast and lunch, so basically no need to cook at all !
Where are you going this summer Lito?
To name a few islands I will definitely visit this year : Kythyra, Hydra, Antiparos, Patmos and Leros
